The Artist

I work across the disciplines – painting, drawing, print-making, sculpture – enjoying the experimentation and challenges.

I am intrigued by light, space, time; the way the ‘void’ can have as much weight and meaning as the form; the way there are layers of meaning and ‘reality’ in life; the ambiguities of the ‘real’.

When working with the human figure, it is the poignancy and dichotomies of human life I explore; our vulnerability, our strength and fragility.

I enjoy the tactility of sculpture; the way a piece in the hand has weight and surface. In my larger works I try to draw the visitor into a shared experience of the piece/s and the space. An experience of being with, being among, realizing that everything changes all the time, that things appear and disappear according to our perspective, that ‘reality’ shifts constantly. These larger works tend to have a contemplative quality.

My training has been in Fine Arts and Welding at the Western Institute of TAFE and in intensive short courses and workshops with practising artists. I have been a full time practising artist since 2001 and have exhibited in solo and group shows throughout Australia. In 2004 I was Artist in Residence in Hill End, NSW.

Travel is something I enjoy immensely – time in the desert, the coast, the mountains, both in Australia and overseas, just looking and experiencing, meeting people, being part of a place. Sooner or later, much of it percolates down into my work.

My studio in Bathurst, NSW is open by appointment, and I am available for private and public commissions.
